Would you look at that… two weeks in a row…

READER COMMENT OF THE WEEK:

Randy said you looked like you had lost a lot of weight.😁

From Wendy Redelico’s lovely husband. Just putting this up here at the top, no reason…

WEIGHT STUFF OF THE WEEK:

Ok, so I haven’t lost a lot of weight, but I’ve lost some weight. I’m about 10 days in a row waking up under 230 lbs. Yes, a gigantic fat ass, but progress… you take it where you can get it…

YES:

I know Exit Zero is for sale.

NO:

I don’t know anything else and I really don’t give a shit…

LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH & FAMOUT OF THE WEEK:

Over the last two days I’ve been both photographed and interviwed by the Atlantic City press regarding my (very minor) role in the movie Killing Mary Sue, winner of the L.A. Independent Film Festival awards for Best Picture, Best Actor (Dermot Mulroney) and Best Actress (Sierra McCormick). Myself, producer Jon Sachar and local musician-now-actress Maddie Hogan will be featured. Maddie, a phenomenal singer, possibly even better than me (but don’t tell her I said that…), has a new CD out, No Wonder, with a number of catchy songs on it. Like this…

If you YouTube her further, you’ll find more songs and her audition for American Idol and the time she spent in Hollywood after getting her Golden Ticket. She’ll be playing in and around Cape May a bunch this summer if you want to check her out (as long as it doesn’t conflict with a Terry & Jerry/ Terry & Dave gig, I’ll allow it). She is also an occasional sender of hilarious texts. (And Maddie, in case you’re reading, yes… I now sing Pink Pony Club… sigh…)

TARIFF TROUBLE OF THE WEEK:

Tip jars have been unacceptably light so far this season, despite Alex & Lynn Sosik’s best efforts to artificially prop-up the Tip Jar Economy. I’m still a great singer so it can’t be that… I choose to blame the tariffs. And Canadians. Stupid Canadians…

WXPN PARAGRAPH OF THE WEEK:

Last week during their fund drive, I re-upped my membership (yes, yes… I know I’m poor, but it’s $4/ mo.) and wrote; Renewing my membership because where else can I hear Squueze, REM and Josh Ritter not only on the same day, but sometimes in the same set? A few minutes later morning show host Kristen Curtis played the following three songs;

1.

2.

3.

What else could a man ask for?

WCFA 101.5 APPRECIATION OF THE WEEK:

WCFA is neck-and-neck with XPN on who plays the most cool songs I like. This morning I got this banger;

Rockpile was something of a UK supergroup, featuring stand-out artists like Nicl Lowe and Dave Edmunds. And, if you didn’t know me circa 2000-2002, my favorite band I was ever in, The O’Brien Bros., with my brother Mike, played this song every Saturday at the Ugly Mug. It’s a total rager.

I also caught this gem on 101.5 last week…

Just… man. If you’re not an REM person, I strongly suggest you remedy that immeidately and begin listening to their discography, starting with Murmur, their debut. From raw greatness to polished greatness to bloated excess to humbled greatness over a 20+ year career as a band is quite the journey. You won’t love everything. Heck, even I only like about 70% of their output. But my goodness, what treasures await you…

A DISTURBING PEEK INSIDE THE MIND OF TERRY O’BRIEN:

How into music am I, you might ask? How addled is my brain with 80s songs lyrics, you might ask? Shut up and I’ll tell you, I might answer… my brain is so addled with music and lyrics that every morning when I go into Old Navy and put my earbud in (one at a time soo ne is always fully charged) I remind myself, “The left bud (in the case) goes in the right ear.” But I do it to the tune on The Fixx’s “One Thing Leads to Another” when he sings “When the wrong word goes in the right ear…”

OTHER MUSIC STUFF:

The play list at Old Navy has been quite excellent recently. LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, a healthy dose of Prince… but THIS one we just added is not only a great song but one of my favorite songs of ALL-TIME. I’m certain I’ve shared it before, but shut up and listen. It’s great.

ALSO AT OLD NAVY…:

  1. About twice a week I get totally freaked out by a mannequin in the corner of my eyes. I’m telling you… those things move sometimes…

  2. My co-worker Allie likes to pick out clothes for me to wear at my gigs. Usually something bright or flowery. You know, the complete opposite of the shit I wear, which is usually black and old. At some point my collarless linen shirts will crumble into dust, then maybe I’ll consider thinking about possibly wearing something else because I CANNOT FIND THEM ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET, but until then, I hope you like me in black, white, blue or light blue… Also, it’s possible Allie needs a boyfriend…

  3. The new Disney-Old Navy stuff is pretty cute. I can say things like that now. I work in fashion. We were under a gag order not to talk about and and ooh boy did I really want to talk about it (I didn’t want to talk about it at all…)
